Fort Mill outlast rivals, stay undefeated in Region III

The Fort Mill swim team swept Nation Ford in a nail bitter for the boys to finish the regular season undefeated heading into the Region III swim championships Saturday.

The Lady Jackets had no trouble winning 118-52, while the boys’ team squeezed by 87-83.

Fort Mill won four of six relay events and pulled away in events 13-17 winning five in a row. Fort Mill had five individual winners, while Nation Ford had five as well.

Winning for Fort Mill were:

Jenna Pehowski – girls’ 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle

Ben Fenwick – boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle

Erynn Black – girls’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke

Aubrey Chandler – girls’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle

Sara Greene – girls’ 100-yard breaststroke

Wining for Nation Ford were:

Isaiah Fitzgerald – boys’ 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly

Trent Cubine – boys’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle

Evelyn Peters – girls’ 100-yard butterfly

Ryan Williams – boys’ 100-yard backstroke

Samuel Fitzgerald – boys’ 100-yard breaststroke

Both teams now head into the Region III championship Saturday at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center and next week will head to the state championship at the USC Natatorium in Columbia.
