Lady Jackets claim 2nd in Region III, ready for tennis playoffs

The Fort Mill Lady Jackets’ tennis team finished the regular season with a 15-2 record and a second place finish in Region III.

Fort Mill’s two losses came from Region III winner Rock Hill. The Lady Jackets finished region play with a 10-2 record.

Fort Mill recently defeated Northwestern to close out the regular season. The team opens the playoffs Oct. 28 at home against an opponent to be determined out of Region I.

Against Rock Hill, Fort Mill lost 6-1. The lone win came from No. 2 doubles team Jessica Brewer and Abigail Thibodeau 6-3, 6-1.

In the Lady Jackets’ match against Northwestern, Fort Mill won 7-0. No. 1 singles Elizabeth Fitzgerald won 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 singles Rachel Brooks was 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.

Also winning in straight sets were No. 3 singles Shreya Katti 6-2, 6-0 and No. 4 singles Reagan Paff 6-2, 6-0. Ellie Prain won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Brewer and Thibodeau teamed to win 6-1, 6-2; while Fitzgerald and Brooks team to win 8-2 in their only set played.
