Sports in brief: Nation Ford top volleyball seed
Lady Falcons capture volleyball title
The Nation Ford Lady Falcons volleyball team swept both Clover and Rock Hill to clinch the Region III-4A title last week.
Nation Ford beat Clover 3-0 winning 27-25, 25-15, 25-14 and was led by Quin Sutphin’s 14 kills and two blocks. Chanel Turner had eight kills, nine digs and two aces, while Madison Gardner has 12 digs and three aces in the match. Clarissa Bates had 29 assist and nine digs.
Against Rock Hill, Nation Ford won 3-0, winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-20, and was led by Jessica Kemp’s 16 kills. Sutphin had 11 kills and Turner had six kills and 15 digs in the win.
Nation Ford finished the regular season 35-13-2. The Lady Falcons open the playoffs at home as the top seed Oct. 29.
Fort Mill sweeps cross-country meet
Both the Fort Mill boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams swept Northwestern in a meet last week at the Anne Springs Close Greenway.
The boys beat Northwestern 25-34 with Zach Brugh winning the race in a time of 18:47.
The Lady Jackets swept the top four spots with Abigail Dawson winning in 23:08. Fort Mill won 16-46 in the girl’s race.
