A slow start led to an overall poor performance by the Nation Ford wrestling team against South Pointe in a 43-27 loss Wednesday.

Nation Ford hosted both Vance and South Pointe. The Falcons got the win over Vance by forfeit. However, things didn’t come so easily against the Stallions.

“We wrestled flat,” said Nation Ford head coach Leon Boulware. “You have to give them credit. South Pointe did a good job. They capitalized on what we didn’t do.”

Nation Ford went down early 9-0 losing the first two matches. The team scored a pin fall win from Christian Trimble in the second period over Dazmin Aldridge at 138 pounds to put the score at 9-6, the closest the Falcons would get in the meet.

South Pointe won the next three matches to go up 22-6 before Nation Ford’s Jake Gravely took a 5-1 decision at 170 pounds over Trel Sellars. The Stallions took three of the next four weight classes – all by pin fall.

The lone win in the upper weights for Nation Ford came from Tay Sauls at 195 pounds with a pin fall win over Delon Cooper in the second period. That made the score 28-15, but South Pointe closed the door mathematically by wining the next two matches.

The Falcons tightened the score as the team moved to the lower weight classes. Dylan Tindall notched a third period pin fall win over Matt Hutto at 106 pounds and Jeremy Kishbaugh won by first period pin fall at 113-pounds over Denzel Freely.

In other recent action, Nation Ford competed in the Silver Fox Invitational at Dutch Fork with Kishbaugh and Gravely, winning their respective weight classes.

Nation Ford was scheduled to participate in the War Eagle Classic in Georgia, but had to withdraw because of the final exam schedule before the holiday break. The Falcons will have the week of Christmas off before heading to Hilton Head to participate in the Seahawk Duals Dec. 30-31.
