In the first of only two home meets this season, the Fort Mill girls’ track team ran past York 104-37, while the boys were edged 73-68 after narrowly losing the final event.
The boys’ meet was tied 68-68 going into the last event the 4x400, which York won, beating the Jackets by 1.35 seconds. The Fort Mill boys won several events at the meet, including the 4x800.
Individual winners for the boys’ included Lavardis Pearson in the discus with a throw of 118 feet, 11 inches and in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 1 inch. Ian Murray won in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches. In the track events, Cameron Smith won the boys’ 1,600-meters with a time of 5:04.84. Antonio Sheppard won the boys’ 200-meters in 23.05 and Nick Kilbarger won the boys’ 3,200-meters in 11:18.18.
In the girls’ events, there were a lot more winners for the Jackets, starting with Fort Mill pole vaulter Jessica Brewer, who set a school record by clearing 11 feet. She also won the 400-meters in 1:08.62.
Fort Mill’s Anna Brewer won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.43 and the 800-meters in 2:46.84. In other events, Makenzie Hull won the 100-meters in 18.36 and in the distance events, Mia Davis won the 1,600-meters in 6:15.66 and Megan Allen won the 3,200-meters in 13:57.24. The Lady Jackets also won the 4x400 and the 4x800 races.
In the girls’ field events, Anika Meyers won the discus for Fort Mill with a toss of 108 feet, 9 inches. Sharae Redmon won the high jump, clearing five feet, and Sarah Felkner won the triple jump with a total of 32 feet, 8 inches. Myra Tall won the long jump for the Jackets with a jump of 15 feet, 5.75 inches.
Fort Mill will take on Rock Hill later this week in its final home meet this season.
