Things continue to roll the right way for the Fort Mill softball team, which picked up three more wins last week to improve to 10-2 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets are preparing to head to Summerville for a tournament during spring break, as the team remains ranked No. 1 in the state, according to the High School Sports Report.

Fort Mill recently beat both Andrew Jackson and Clover in two very close games, while blowing out Gaffney 11-2. The Jackets are now 6-0 in Region III-4A play.

Against Clover, sophomore pitcher Bella Roy threw a no-hitter in Fort Mill’s 2-1 win. Roy went the distance, striking out six and walking two, while the Jackets made five errors behind her, accounting for the one run from Clover.

Against Andrew Jackson, ranked No. 1 in 2A, Fort Mill came away with a 3-1 win. Freshman Payton Lemire got the start and threw a complete game. She struck out four and walked just one in the game.

Andrew Jackson struck first with a score in the top of the third. Lemire gave up a single to start the inning off. A Fort Mill error then allowed the base runner to second and she would eventually score on a sacrifice.

Fort Mill bounced back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits. Sophomore Lauren Collie started things off with a single, followed by a single from sophomore Marissa McDermott and a two RBI single from junior Cassie McInerney that drove in both Collie and McDermott to give the Jackets the lead.

McInerney eventually scored on a sacrifice from sophomore Keri Nissen.

The three runs was all Fort Mill needed as Lemire cruised the rest of the way, allowing just three hits the remainder of the game.

Roy then came back against Gaffney later in the week to throw a complete game for the win, as Fort Mill put up five runs in the sixth inning to cap off an already impressive game against their regional foe.

Up next for Fort Mill after the Summerville tournament are games at York and rivals Nation Ford.
