Report: Man leads police on chase in stolen car
Deputies say a Rock Hill man tried to outrun police in a stolen car earlier this week, taking them several miles and across the South Carolina-North Carolina border before spinning out.
The car chase started on Heckle Boulevard in Rock Hill around 3 a.m. on Thursday when a deputy spotted a car driving without headlights on, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report. When the deputy tried to stop the car, the pursuit began on Herlong Avenue, onto Celanese Road and then Interstate 77.
Officials said Adaryell Dezmon Ervin, 23, failed to stop for a blue light. Deputies say the car Ervin was driving had been reported stolen in Charlotte. Records also show that Ervin‘s driver license was suspended.
Ervin is accused of attempting to elude arrest by entering I-77 via an exit ramp, first going in the wrong direction then turning around to head toward Charlotte, the report states. Deputies continued the pursuit as Ervin merged onto Interstate 485 in North Carolina, heading toward Pineville, according to the report.
While taking the Polk Street exit, Ervin lost control of the car, spinning several times before he stopped, according to the report. Police said the vehicle was not damaged and no one was injured.
A 22-year-old female passenger from Charlotte, was released after Ervin was arrested, the report states.
Ervin is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, driving under suspension and driving without headlights. He is in jail in Charlotte, awaiting extradition to York County.
