One of two police officers arrested Friday for the alleged abuse and neglect of their 3-month-old son waived extradition to York County from North Carolina in a Charlotte courtroom Monday.

Robert Jeffrey Taylor, 45, who resigned last week from the York Police Department where he was a corporal after serving with the Lancaster Police Department for several years, said in court he would not fight efforts to bring him to York County to face charges of abuse to inflict great bodily injury on a child and child neglect.

He could face as many as 20 years in prison, if convicted.

The child’s mother, Chester Police Sgt. Audrey Schurig, 36, is facing child neglect charges. She chose not to waive extradition on Monday, and an extradition hearing was scheduled for March 19. She is on administrative leave without pay, Chester officials said.

In February, the couple, who live in Rock Hill, took their son to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, where he was diagnosed with injuries to the brain and neck. The boy was flown to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he remains hospitalized.

Agents with the State Law Enforcement Division charged the couple Friday after Rock Hill police asked the state agency to investigate.
