An alleged drunk driver crashed his SUV in a wooded area in Rock Hill on Saturday morning, injuring himself near Waterford Park Drive, according to police.

Officers say they found the man in the driver’s seat, unable to open his car door because it was lodged against a tree. A witness told police that he saw the man speeding on Waterford Park Drive and that he disregarded a stop sign at the intersection at Red River Road.

When the man’s car went off the road and into the woods, the witness called 911, according to a police incident report. The man had to exit through his SUV’s passenger side window to get out of his car, police say.

James Edward Harris, 43, of Charlotte was charged with first offense DUI and taken to the hospital after the wreck, the report states. Officers say Harris had several injuries to his face.
