The mother charged with unlawful neglect of her 3-month-old son resigned Tuesday from her position with the Chester Police Department.

Audrey Schurig, 36, had been on administrative leave without pay, but met with Chief Andre’ Williams on Tuesday. Schurig is still in jail in Charlotte after waiving extradition in court on Monday.

Schurig and her husband, former York Police Department officer Jeff Taylor, were arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg authorities after a State Law Enforcement Division Investigation. Taylor resigned from his position in York prior to being arrested.

Warrants allege Taylor and Schurig took their son, Jaxon Jennings Taylor, to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill in February with brain and neck injuries. The child was then flown to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he remains hospitalized.

Schurig was also formerly employed with the York County Sheriff’s Office, where she worked for about eight years before resigning in 2009. Records show that during that time, she was not subject to any disciplinary action, nor did she recieve any citizen complaints.
