Coroner identifies body found on Herlong Avenue as missing Clover man
The York County coroner identified Justin Ramo, 27, Wednesday morning as the man found dead beside unused railroad tracks on Herlong Avenue in Rock Hill on Tuesday night.
Ramo had been reported missing on Monday, according to a missing person flier from Rock Hill police. He had last been seen at 4 p.m. Monday at the Food Lion on Bethel Street in Clover and was described as “handicapped.”
An autopsy is scheduled for today, Coroner Sabrina Gast said, and the coroner’s office is working with the Rock Hill Police Department.
The police report of the incident says Ramo was found face down in a wooded area. Officers found an empty bottle of rubbing alcohol, a bottle with Coca-Cola and “presumably rubbing alcohol,” along with empty bottles of something else, but the details were redacted from the police report.
Authorities said Ramo did not have ID or other identifying papers.
Police spokesman Mark Bollinger said there was no immediate evidence of foul play.
Officers were alerted to Ramo’s body by a 911 call from a Keystone Substance Abuse Services employee, Bollinger said. The employee was walking in the area during her dinner break Tuesday and found the body, authorities said.
A background check on Ramo showed he had three past arrests with the Clover Police Department for public disorderly conduct in the last five months, the most recent of which was Saturday.
Ramo lived about 10 years off Golden Pond Drive in York, before a recent move to Clover. Neighbors on Golden Pond recall a gentle but tough young man who collected the same scrapes and bruises other children did, whose condition "didn't slow him down one bit."
"He was a good guy," said Travis King, Ramo’s next-door neighbor. "We hung out all the time."
