Rock Hill Police: Burglar spotted stealing dog from apartment
Rock Hill police were called to the scene of a burglary after a neighbor said he spotted someone carrying away his girlfriend’s dog.
The man told police he heard the woman’s apartment door – which is across the hall from his own apartment on Hearn Street – open and close several times. When he went out to investigate, he saw a man he knows by the name of “John” walking out of the apartment carrying the woman’s dog, according to a Rock Hill police report.
When “John” saw the boyfriend come out of his apartment, he put the woman’s dog down, and walked downstairs and into another apartment, the report states.
The boyfriend didn’t initially think it was unusual for the man to have the woman’s dog, thinking he might be taking care of it for her, but he called the woman to confirm, he told officers.
When she said she didn’t know the man, her boyfriend and his friend when to the apartment that the alleged burglar had entered. The man living there – who claimed to not know who had broken in the woman’s apartment – let the boyfriend and his friend inside, police say.
Inside the accused burglar’s apartment, the two men told officers they saw the woman’s Nintendo Wii and home sound system.
The woman later told police her driver’s license and debit card had also been stolen. She said it’s possible the man got into her apartment using a spare key under her mat.
Her boyfriend gave police a partial description of the suspect’s car. No arrests have been made.
