Two charged in Chester councilman’s killing in court Tuesday
Two of the five alleged gang members charged in connection with the November shooting death of Chester City Councilman Odell Williams are scheduled to be in court Tuesday.
Williams, 69, a councilman since 1997 and a former Chester police officer, was killed as he allegedly chased the five associates of the Roundtree Circle Gang after the group, all armed, was set to rob a rival gang. Lawyers for the accused claim Williams shot at the defendants first, before, according to police, one of the five shot Williams in the head with an assault rifle.
Police said after arresting all five suspects that gang members threatened police during the investigation.
DeAngelo Roseboro, 20, is charged with accessory to murder after the fact. Police say he helped the alleged shooter, Christopher Moore, flee the crime scene. Roseboro was arrested Thursday on allegations that he violated curfew conditions of his bond.
Roseboro had been out on $50,000 bond since mid-February. During a hearing Tuesday, prosecutors and police plan to argue that Roseboro did not comply with bond conditions. It remains unclear if prosecutors will ask that bond be revoked.
Quinton McClinton, 26, is charged with accessory to murder before the fact. Police and prosecutors have said he provided the vehicle the five men used during the Nov. 4 shooting. He also is charged with misprision of a felony for allegedly failing to alert police of the crime.
McClinton is scheduled for trial Tuesday on unrelated drug charges from a 2013 arrest, prosecutors say. Court records show McClinton has a previous drug conviction. When he was charged in connection with Williams’ death, he was free on bond after having been charged in connection with a 2012 shooting.
McClinton was denied bond last month after his arrest in connection with Williams’ killing and remains in jail.
