Cupcakes ‘concealed in stomach’ among items man shoplifted in York, deputies say
A North Carolina man’s argument that cupcakes he’d eaten and not paid for at York store were not concealed, and therefore not shoplifted, failed to sway a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
During the incident that started Monday night, minutes before midnight, deputies were called to the Walmart in York where they encountered Robert Miltson Williamson outside the store.
Williamson, 29, of Hickory, N.C., was wearing a University of South Carolina polo shirt with the tag still on it, the officer reported, and in his hands were an open box of cupcakes and a cellphone.
“Williamson stated he was cold so he put the short sleeve shirt over his tee shirt,” the report states. “He stated he was hungry and ate some of the cupcakes, and he needed to call someone and no one would let him use the phone.”
Williamson, who was outside the store with the items and no money to pay for them, told the deputies he “did not steal anything,” the report says.
“He also stated he did not shoplift as he did not conceal any of the items,” the report states.
The deputy told him “Three of the cupcakes were concealed in his stomach.”
Williamson was charged with shoplifting the box of cupcakes, cell phone and polo shirt, according to the report. He remained in the York County jail, records show.
