Suspicious Tega Cay fire under investigation

A house fire in Tega Cay is under investigation as a potential arson.

Tega Cay firefighters were called in after a fire broke out in a house on Samoa Court around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters deemed the fire suspicious and turned the scene over to Tega Cay police as a potential arson.

City police reached out to the York County Sheriff’s Office’s dedicated fire investigator, and detectives were working the case Thursday morning, said Tega Cay Police Maj. Dave Nelson.

Damage estimates were unavailable as the fire incident report was incomplete, but investigators remained at the scene late Wednesday and continued working the area on Thursday.

Nelson said the home is currently unoccupied.
