Student arrested after fight at Northwestern High School

Two 14-year-old students were suspended Friday after a fight at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill. One of the boys was also arrested.

When an officer arrived at the school, administrators had already separated the boys, who were fighting in the courtyard next to a school building, a police report states.

The student identified on the report as the victim told the officer the other student had been bullying him for weeks, calling him names and saying bad things about his mother. After a verbal altercation, the two began throwing punches, he said.

The other student said he started the fight because of peer pressure. He said his friends “egged him on to fight, because they thought he could win the fight,” the report states.

A cell phone video showed both students “actively engaging each other,” throwing punches, then falling to the ground, according to the report.

The student who admitted to starting the fight was charged with disorderly conduct and released to his mother. Both students were suspended by the school for fighting.
