York police: Woman cuts husband over pocket dial

A York woman was arrested when she allegedly cut her husband on the head after she received an accidental “pocket dial” from the man’s cellphone, according to York police.

Lucille Carter Smith, 54, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

York police were called to a motel on the 1200 block of Chester Highway around 8 p.m. March 20 in response to a domestic dispute. Police found a 53-year-old man bleeding from a cut to the right side of his forehead.

Smith, the victim’s wife, told police she received an apparently accidental call from the man’s cellphone. On the call, she said she could hear her husband and another man talking about making a transaction of some kind.

When she arrived at the hotel to confront her husband, she got into a physical struggle with the man when she tried to force her way into the hotel room, according to the incident report. She pulled out a pocket knife and “accidentally” cut her husband on the side of the head. She then threw the weapon into the woods behind the motel, she told police.

Smith was arrested at the scene. Her husband was treated by EMS and received some gauze for his wound. Police searched the woods for the weapon but were unable to locate the knife.
