Rock Hill man arrested at Cherry Road bar after lying about assault

A 28-year-old man who lied to police about being assaulted in a Rock Hill bar on Friday night was arrested after witnesses and employees debunked his claims.

Rock Hill Police went to the Pub House on Cherry Road just before midnight because the man claimed he’d been assaulted.

Authorities say the man originally said that “he was assaulted by a group of college students for no reason” while playing pool inside the bar. Pub House is located near Winthrop University’s campus.

Later, the man told officers that he was assaulted behind the bar, according to a Rock Hill police report. Officers say the man also made up a story about someone pulling a gun on him in the bar and threatening to kill him as someone held him on the ground with their foot on his throat.

As police investigated on Friday night, officers learned that the man had been disorderly inside Pub House and that he had attempted to turn off the DJ’s music before employees asked him to leave. When told that police planned to review security video from inside the bar, the man admitted that he was not assaulted.

But, he said people inside the bar were “talking to him harshly and cursing at him, so he felt threatened.” Officers arrested the man for providing false information to police.
