Report: Rock Hill man was belligerent, disruptive in Winthrop police lobby
A 25-year-old man who lives near Winthrop University was arrested Monday evening after showing up drunk at the campus police department.
The Rock Hill man was belligerent and disruptive in the lobby as he demanded to see the duty sergeant, according to a Winthrop police report.
Officials said the duty sergeant was busy on a call, but “that information was not good enough” for the man, the report states.
The suspect, who had slurred speech, wanted to know which Winthrop officer came to his Ebenezer Avenue Extension home the night before. After an officer told him that “was not a priority,” the man claimed Winthrop Police were “rude” and said he shouldn’t have to wait all night to find out, according to the report.
The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the man. He was charged with public disorderly conduct and taken to the Rock Hill City Jail. His bond was $260.
The man is not a student and has no affiliation with Winthrop University.
