Clover woman charged with felony DUI after deadly crash on SC 5
A Clover woman has been charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with a fatal car accident near York on March 25. She was booked at the York County Detention Center on Wednesday.
Laura Beth Sanders, 31, was driving east on S.C. 5 about five miles from York when the Kia Sedona minivan she was driving went off the right side of the road and overturned, hitting an embankment, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Her passenger, Alexander Bissett McConnell, 48, of Clover died at the scene.
Neither McConnell or Sanders were wearing seatbelts and both were ejected from the car. Sanders was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment, but is now in the York County jail. Her bond was denied.
A felony DUI charge when the act results in death is punishable by a mandatory fine of $10,100 to $25,100 and mandatory imprisonment of one to 25 years.
