Sheriff: Rock Hill woman lied about burglary to keep dead boyfriend’s belongings

More than six weeks after she reported that her Saluda Road home had been ransacked and burglarized, a 47-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday by the York County Sheriff’s Office for filing a false police report of a felony.

Michelle Robinson first reported she had been the victim of a burglary on February 16. She was unsure about what was stolen, according to a report.

A few days later, she let the investigators know she was missing two baseball jackets valued at $300 each, a heater, china, medication and a box of wipes. A few weeks later, she also told a detective she’d seen someone wearing one of the jackets at the magistrate court in Rock Hill.

Through the course of the investigation, the detective discovered Robinson’s home was not burglarized and she’d filed a false police report “in order to keep these items for herself,” instead of the probate court distributing them following the death of her boyfriend, who had also lived at the home.

Robinson was released from the York County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
