Deputies: Rock Hill man fired gun, talked about killing woman
York County deputies arrested a Rock Hill man on Sunday evening after he was accused of making remarks about killing a woman and pointing a gun at her, according to police records.
The incident happened near a pond on Museum Road where the man – identified by police as Charles Ike Hemphill, age 62 – was fishing with the woman, age 55. York County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the woman called 911 to report a domestic violence incident.
The woman told police that Hemphill “told her multiple times that he could kill her and that no one would find her,” according to the sheriff’s office report. Later, Hemphill was fishing in the pond but then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the woman, the report states.
Police say they believe Hemphill fired one shot into the water. Deputies found a 9mm pistol in the bed of the truck he and the woman were driving.
Hemphill told deputies that he and the woman had been arguing but he didn’t answer questions about whether he used the pistol, the report states.
Deputies charged Hemphill with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, according to sheriff’s office records. By Monday late afternoon, he remained in jail on a $10,470 bond.
