Police investigate stolen money from safe at McHale’s in Rock Hill

Rock Hill police officers are investigating the theft of about $630 from the safe at McHale’s On Main Street pub.

The restaurant and bar’s manager called the police department on Monday to report the theft, police records show. Detectives are investigating the theft as a breach of trust because they suspect an employee may have taken the money, according to the police incident report.

On Monday afternoon, an employee requested $50 from the safe to buy ink for a printer, the manager told officers. Video surveillance shows the employee accessing the safe and then leaving around 2 p.m.

The suspected employee never returned to the pub, other employees told police. When the manager checked the safe later that night, he said, all of the money except for rolls of coins was missing.

Police officers and McHale’s manager have tried unsuccessfully to contact the employee, according to the police report. No arrests have been made.
