Man with suspended license leads York police on chase
A Rock Hill man is facing charges after York police say he led them on a high-speed chase down residential streets last week, according to an incident report.
Zackary Jevonn Ashley, 34, faces charges of driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights.
At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer reported he spotted Ashley’s Volkswagen driving at a high rate of speed on Blackburn Street. The car continued to pick up speed after turning onto Moore Street, and the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. But instead of stopping, Ashley continued onto Madison Street and then Cemetery Street, the report states.
The officer reported seeing Ashley run the stop sign onto Liberty Street, then run off the road on Railroad Avenue and strike a culvert before continuing onto Johnson Road. The original officer discontinued the pursuit because of Ashley’s speed, and was unable to get a radar reading.
The chase was taken up by other officers, including two agents from the Drug Enforcement Unit, who followed the car’s tire marks and a trail of debris from the accident to Old Puckett Place, where Ashley was taken into custody. There, officers discovered his license was suspended.
