Police: Rock Hill man conceals meth in knife handle
Rock Hill police arrested a man for carrying methamphetamine concealed in the hilt of a knife.
David Carson Hargett, 44, of Rock Hill, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to a Rock Hill police report.
Police were called to investigate a suspicious person in the 700 block of Dunlap Street around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. After they stopped Hargett, they learned that he was wanted by the York Police Department, the report states.
After Hargett was taken into custody, police found a folding knife and a burnt marijuana cigarette in his pants pockets, according to the report. Officers then observed Hargett “reaching toward his right side... attempting to manipulate an item in his waist band,” the report states.
As the officer moved to place Hargett inside the patrol car, he noticed a silver survivor knife on the ground next to Hargett’s right foot.
When asked if it was his knife, Hargett replied “no.” Inside the hilt of the survivor knife, officers found a clear plastic bag containing 0.3 grams of methamphetamine.
Police also found a camouflaged sheath protruding from the bottom of Hargett’s right pants leg. Hargett claimed the sheath was for the folding knife, but police said “the survivor knife that was found on the ground fit perfectly in the sheath.”
