A Rock Hill man faces obstruction of justice charges after he reportedly ate a small quantity of crack cocaine to avoid arrest during a traffic stop.

Kenneth Barnard White, 55, was charged after he was stopped near the intersection of Saluda and State streets at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. When the officer approached White’s car, he noticed the driver appeared “nervous,” according to a police report. He also noted “small white crumbs around his mouth and also inside his mouth.”

When asked about the crumbs, White reported told police he was carrying crack cocaine and ate it to destroy the evidence.

He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Rock Hill city jail.
