A 20-year-old Clover man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with shooting at cars Jan. 24 on Charlotte Highway in York, near Lake Wylie, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report.

Marquis Antonio White-Wallace is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and probation violation.

A woman called police Jan. 24 and told them she was driving on Highway 49, near Kingsbury Road, with her 2-year-old son when she heard gunshots, the report says. She said she saw a white SUV and a blue truck behind her.

A man called police the same day and said a man driving a royal blue Fort F-150 was tailgating his car and shooting at him, the report says. Police said the victim’s car, a 2006 Ford Explorer had two flat tires, a broken rear window and bullet holes in the hatch, the report says.

Police found shell casings on the side of Charlotte Highway, the report says, and a witness told police he heard gunshots and saw a blue Ford F-150 almost wreck speeding down the road earlier.

Police found the Ford F-150 at a gas station nearby and officers saw a man park the vehicle and get into another car to drive away, the report says. The car was towed to Moss Justice Center as evidence.

White-Wallace was arrested early Wednesday, Jan. 31, according to jail records. His bond has been set at $100,000.

Wallace had been previously charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and drug possession in January 2017, according to South Carolina court records.

He was sentenced under the Youthful Offender Act to no more than 3 years along with 18 months probation in 2017.
