String of car break-ins reported at Rock Hill hotels

Four vehicles were broken into at three Rock Hill hotels along Interstate 77 within a 24-hour period, and police are investigating the crimes as being connected.

The first incident was reported at 7 a.m. Tuesday, when a Prosperity man told police his 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was broken into in the Marriott parking lot on River Run Court. The thieves damaged the lock and smashed out the driver’s side window, causing $1,100 in damages. A laptop computer, iPad and two pairs of sunglasses were reported stolen. The items were valued at $2,000.

At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Virginia man reported his car 2015 Dodge Ram broken into overnight in the Microtel parking lot on Riverview Road. The driver’s side window was smashed and several items stolen, including a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber pistol, a blue nylon climbing harness, tools and a gym bag containing the victim’s clothes. Those items are valued at $2,600.

Additionally, at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, a West Virginia traveler left his room to walk his dog at the Country Inn on Patriot Parkway and found his 2012 Ford F-350 broken into, and a $100 cellphone was stolen.

A second F-350 was also found to be broken into in the parking lot, but no items were taken from that vehicle.

Rock Hill police are investigating all three incidents.
