A car chase on southbound Interstate 77 from Charlotte to Chester County ended Thursday when the York County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and Chester County deputies arrested the driver who stopped and fled into the woods.
Police on Friday identified the driver as Troy S. Beneby, 26, of Charlotte. He was arrested on stolen property charges and could face additional warrants from Chester and York County authorities, including failure to stop for blue lights.
Benby had made it to the Chester-York County line, just past the mile marker 70 about 4 p.m. Thursday when he ditched his car and ran. A York County police dog tracked his scent and he was arrested by Chester County authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s helicopter assisted in the chase.
