York County deputies responded to seven vehicle break-ins in a neighborhood east of Rock Hill Sunday.
Police were called around 6:20 a.m. Sunday to Vickie Lane, Ellis Pond Drive and Stuart Carter Avenue, where seven residents reported their cars being broken into during the overnight hours, a report from the York County Sheriff’s Office shows.
Money, a purse, a designer handbag and identity documents were stolen, the report states. The report shows at least some of the vehicles were left unlocked. However, some victims told police their vehicles were locked and had car alarms set, the report states.
The incidents remain under investigation.
The sheriff’s office in 2017 instituted a program called the 9 p.m. Routine, which urges people to lock vehicles at home before going to sleep, and not to leave personal items in vehicles. The office sends out a Facebook message nightly reminding people to lock their cars, close their garages and secure their outbuildings.
