34 citations issued for underage alcohol sales at 17 York County businesses

Police in York County issued 34 citations at 17 businesses Friday after checking for alcohol sales to people under age 21.

Agents with the State Law Enforcement Division and York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit checked 91 businesses Friday for underage alcohol sales. It is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under age 21, said Marvin Brown, commander of the county drug unit.

The sting, using 15 agents divided into five teams, took place from around 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Police used paid underage people to go in the businesses and ask to buy alcohol, Brown said.

In each of the cases, the person who sold the alcohol to a minor was cited with a ticket, Brown said.

Each of the businesses also was cited with a South Carolina alcohol license violation, Brown said.

Police said citations were issued at the following businesses, according to information released by the drug unit:

Fort Mill: La Unica Mexican Grill, 3695 Foothills Way; Persis Indian Grill, 1504 Carolina Place 101; Cherry’s, 526 Mercantile Place; Blacow Burger, 1646 S.C. 160 West Suite 106; and Fort Mill BBQ, 737 Stockbridge Drive.

Rock Hill: Ledo Pizza, 489 S. Herlong Ave.; Grumpy Brothers, 295 Herlong Ave; Hampton Inn, 2111 Taber Drive; Revolutions, 2225 Dave Lyle Blvd.; Pump House, 575 Herrons Ferry Road; Burger and Barley, 111 S. Cherry Road; Michaels, 4039 Charlotte Ave.; and Grouchos Deli, 221 Cherry Road.

York: Jasmines, 8 N. Congress St.;

Lake Wylie: Lake Wylie Bowl and Bounce, 4034 Charlotte Highway

Clover: Copper Premium, 4516 Charlotte Highway; and Cherrys, 4034 Charlotte Highway.
