A Rock Hill man charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident told the officer he drank “too much for you” prior to getting in the car, according to his arrest report.
Rock Hill police were called to an accident at the Exit 79 ramp on Interstate 77 just after 10 p.m. Tuesday after one of the cars involved drove away from the scene. Police later located a car matching the description in the Taco Bell parking lot on John Ross Parkway, and the victim later identified the driver as the culprit when he arrived on the scene.
The driver, Stephen Daniel Oxendine, 24, denied being involved in a collision. Officers believed Oxendine to be intoxicated, and when asked how much he’d had to drink reportedly responded “too much for you.” When asked to perform a field sobriety test, Oxendine reportedly called them “useless” and said he knew he wouldn’t pass, at one point saying “You know I am drunk and I am going to jail.”
Without being asked, Oxendine then turned around and placed his hands behind his back.
