Rock Hill police on lookout for stabbing suspect

Rock Hill Police are looking for a man connected with a Saturday stabbing that left another man injured.

Jeffery Steven McAteer, 33, is wanted on warrants for attempted murder and possession of a knife during a violent crime, according to Mark Bollinger, a Rock Hill Police spokesman.

Officers arrived at a home on the 600 block of Cauthen Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday and found a man with a stab wound to his right side, according to a police report. EMS transported the 26-year-old man to a hospital.

Officers spoke with a man and a woman who witnessed the stabbing. The woman told police she and the victim had just returned home from the store when they heard tires squealing. She saw the male witness exit a vehicle driven by another woman, and a Ford SUV that approached from the opposite direction.

The witness said McAteer exited the SUV, and a few seconds later, she saw the victim fall to the ground, police said. The incident was reportedly prompted by a dispute between the victim and McAteer over a woman who has a child with one of the men.

Anyone with information on McAteer’s whereabouts is asked to call Rock Hill Police at 803-329-7200.
