Deputies: Man at Rock Hill hospital arrested for drugs, $1,378 confiscated

From staff reports

A 44-year-old South Carolina man was arrested at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill this week after deputies found him with $1,378 in cash and 1.8 grams of methamphetamine, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities charged Philip Jeffrey Macaluso, of Lenoir, with possession of drugs with intent to distribute, sheriff’s office records show. He was arrested on Thursday morning. By Saturday, Macaluso was still being held at the Moss Justice Detention Center without bond, records state.

Sheriff’s office records do not explain why Macaluso was at the hospital in Rock Hill. Deputies say he has four prior drug convictions.

The York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit handled the case and arrest, according to police records. Investigators seized the drugs and money.
