A man claiming to be US Secretary of State John Kerry recently tried to scam a Rock Hill woman.

The 52-year-old woman told police the man sent her emails and texts telling her to pick up a Western Union Transfer for $900 and deposite it in her bank account, and then transfer the money to Nigeria, according to a Rock Hill Police report.

The man reportedly said she would receive $1.2 million in return.

The woman went to the Western Union transfer at Bi-Lo on Main Street, but Western Union flagged the transaction as she attempted to forward the money to Nigeria.

Later, she was contacted by a man who called himself Paul Allen who threatened to report her to the FBI if she didn’t return the $900.

The woman said the suspects knew her Wells Fargo account number and had a photo of her S.C. driver’s license. She doesn’t know how they obtained either.

Police advised the woman to change her bank accounts.
