2 robbed at gunpoint during Rock Hill drug deal

Two men reported they were robbed at gunpoint during a drug deal Sunday morning near Winthrop University’s campus, according to Rock Hill Police.

The victims — a 20-year-old Cary, N.C., man and an 18-year-old from Rock Hill — said they were on Campus Walk property at 3:30 a.m. to meet two men selling marijuana when one of the drug dealers pulled out a black revolver. The N.C. man turned over $22 before leaving the scene, a police report states.

The victims initially didn’t call police because it was a drug transaction, but later opted to inform authorities since a gun was involved.

The N.C. man said he caught the incident on a camera from his vehicle. He turned over the video footage as well as the dealer’s phone number.

Campus Walk apartments are located adjacent to Winthrop University's campus but the buildings are owned and operated privately. Many apartment residents are current Winthrop students but the housing is not exclusively for college students.

School records indicate the victims are not Winthrop students.
