A York man was arrested after fleeing an underage drinking party this weekend in Clover, where several other minors were cited, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Bartholomew Richard Smith Jr., 20, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Moss Justice Center, where he remained Monday under $4,200 bond.
Deputies investigating an underage drinking party on the 5200 block of Golden Pond Drive in Clover early Sunday saw several people sitting around a fire in the backyard of the home and open containers of beer on the ground, according to a sheriff’s report. One of the individuals, later identified as Smith, began to quickly move away from the crowd when deputies identified themselves, and tried to walk away even after a deputy told him to stop.
Smith began running around the backyard swearing at deputies, the report states. He refused to comply with orders to stop, and tried to get other people around the fire to flee.

Deputies chased Smith down Golden Pond Drive to S.C. 274, where he ran into the woods, deputies said. The K-9 tracking team was called to assist in locating Smith but was unsuccessful.
At the home, the remaining suspects cooperated and admitted to drinking beer, the report states. Nine people were cited for minor consuming alcohol.
Smith again fled on foot when deputies found him at his home in York but was apprehended by the K-9 team near his home, deputies said.
