Deputies investigating early morning home invasion in Indian Land

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday burglary during which two armed men reportedly forced their way into an Indian Land home.

The incident happened about 6:30 a.m. on the 2800 block of Birkhill Lane, according to Doug Barfield, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. A man and woman were inside the home during the burglary.

The man told deputies two men whose faces were covered with bandanas kicked in his back door, and he approached them. The suspects chased the man upstairs, where he took refuge behind the closed door of a bedroom.

The intruders then left the home in a gray or white older-model Toyota sedan, Barfield said. The victim said he did not see a firearm but heard what he thought was the sound of the trigger of a gun being pulled.

No shots were fired but investigators found evidence in the home “consistent with the presence of a handgun in the home during the incident,” Barfield said. The case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388, or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
