Rock Hill student charged with assault after bathroom attack, cops say
A female student at a high school in Rock Hill has been charged with assault and battery after attacking another female in a bathroom, police said.
The incident happened Wednesday at South Pointe High School, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.
The school resource officer was notified after the victim was in the nurse’s office due to being hurt, according to a police incident report.
The name of the student who was charged has not been released because of her age.
The student who was charged was found to have repeatedly punched and kicked the other student, Chavis said.
“What we have is one aggressor who assaulted another student,” Chavis said.
The student who was arrested has been petitioned to South Carolina Family Court in York County on the assault charge, according to police and court records.
Because the incident happened in a restroom, there is no school surveillance video of the attack, Chavis said.
However, video of the incident was recorded by another student and later posted on social media, according to police records. Detectives and the school resource officer were then able to obtain that video and charge the student determined to be the aggressor, Chavis said.
The Rock Hill school district is taking disciplinary measures against the aggressor student, said Mychal Frost, spokesman for the school district.
Frost also said school officials have seen the video that was taken by another student, and are investigating why the incident was not reported to school authorities by witnesses. School officials were made aware of the video after it was circulated on social media, Frost said.
