Lancaster man sent child porn picture over Internet, SC cops say

A Lancaster man has been arrested after sending child porn over the Internet, police said.

Mark Erwin Miller, 61, was charged Monday with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. Miller is accused of distributing a child pornography photo, police said.

South Carolina law defines second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor as anyone who “distributes, transports, exhibits, receives, sells, purchases, exchanges, or solicits material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaged in sexual activity or appearing in a state of sexually explicit nudity when a reasonable person would infer the purpose is sexual stimulation.”

Miller could face as much as 10 years in a South Carolina prison if convicted, state law shows.

The investigation into Miller started with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said Robert Kittle, spokesman for the S.C. Attorney General’s office.

Lancaster County deputies and agents from the attorney general’s office investigated the case, court records show. The attorney general’s office coordinates South Carolina’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.

The task force operates locally in York and Lancaster counties. In November, York County deputies charged 10 people in an ICAC sting that targeted child predators.
