Rock Hill man on bond wanted for girlfriend kidnap causes SWAT standoff near downtown
A York County man who was free on bond from previous drug and gun charges is in custody after a SWAT standoff Tuesday morning near downtown Rock Hill, police said.
The incident near the intersection of Black and Stonewall streets started after 8 a.m. and ended an hour later, said Lt. Michael Chavis of Rock Hill Police Department.
Ramon Rodrigo Hope, 40, was wanted on arrest warrants for kidnapping and domestic violence against his girlfriend Monday afternoon, Chavis said.
Officers went to the house around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to serve the warrants, Chavis said.
Hope would not come out of the home and SWAT was called after 8 a.m. Hope was barricaded inside for a short period of time, police said in a Twitter social media posting.
The roads around the scene were blocked for about an hour. Hope was taken into custody and no one was hurt, Chavis said.
“Our people were able to talk him into coming out without any more incidents,” Chavis said. The Rock Hill bomb squad and crisis negotiators also responded.
Hope was free on bond from six charges from 2018 including drugs and weapons at the time of Tuesday’s standoff with police.
Police remain in the area as the investigation continues.
The SWAT deployment is the third in York County in a month.
