Man shot in Chester County airlifted to Charlotte hospital, sheriff says

A man was shot late Tuesday in Chester County, deputies said.

The victim was shot in the side and hand, and airlifted by helicopter to Atrium Health hospital in Charlotte, said Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey. His condition has not been released.

The shooting happened in a roadway near the intersection of Culp and Simpson roads near the York County line east of the Catawba River, Dorsey said.

No suspects were in custody as of Wednesday morning.

No other details about the shooting have been released.

The shooting is the first in Chester County in 2020. In 2019, after a rash of shootings, Dorsey and Chester Police Department Chief Eric Williams vowed to crack down on gun violence in Chester County.

Sheriff’s office patrol detectives and forensics units were on scene through the night, Dorsey said. Lando Fire Department firefighters assisted EMS with a landing zone and emergency lights for the police investigation, said Eddie Murphy, Lando chief.
