Lancaster woman stole money, van from elderly grandmother, Rock Hill police say

A Lancaster woman has been arrested after stealing a van and money from her elderly grandmother in Rock Hill, police said.

Sherri Elizabeth Stegall, 40, is charged with two counts of exploiting a vulnerable adult, said Lt. Michael Chavis of Rock Hill Police Department.

Stegall is accused of fraudulently taking the money belonging to her grandmother, police said. Stegall then took her grandmother’s van without permission, according to a police report.

The victim is 87 years old, Chavis said.

Exploitation of a vulnerable adult is a felony under South Carolina law that carries a potential sentence of up to five years for a conviction. Exploitation of a vulnerable adult can be financial in nature, Chavis said.

Stegall was out on bond at the time of her arrest for a felony drug charge in late December, according to York County criminal court records.

Her bond was $61,200 bond, York County jail records show.
