Investigators with South Carolina’s health department and York County police and environmental officials are trying to determine who dumped petroleum near a creek near the North Carolina state line this week.
York County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Wednesday to Antioch International Church on Regent Parkway, where someone had found that the petroleum had been dumped and was threatening to contaminate a nearby creek, according to a police report.
Officials from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental responded and pictures were taken of the spill, although it is unclear what type of product was spilled and how many gallons were dumped.
The residential area is near where the former PTL Ministries of Jim and Tammie Faye Bakker was located and borders Mecklenburg County to the north and Lancaster County to the east.
