NBC’s Dateline to focus on former York, Chester SC cop who killed his wife.

The case of a former York police officer sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife will be featured on the Dateline TV show.

The show will be broadcast Friday night on NBC, according to the network.

James ”Jamie” Baldwin Jr. was found guilty of murder in November 2019 for the 2016 death of his wife, Judy.

Baldwin claimed his wife died in a car crash, but police and prosecutors later showed that he beat her to death and faked a crash to cover up the crime.

State Law Enforcement Division agents and S.C. Highway Patrol troopers took over the investigation after the Chester County Sheriff’s Office initially did not investigate the death as a homicide, trial testimony showed.

The Herald reported in August 2018 that Baldwin had been arrested after he was indicted by a Chester County grand jury.

NBC Dateline interviewed Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker, 6th Circuit Deputy Solicitor Candice Lively, and members of Judy Baldwin’s family for the TV segment, NBC officials said in a statement to The Herald.

The show airs at 10 p.m.

Baldwin, 60, used to be a police officer for the York Police Department and Columbia Police Department. He also was a dispatcher for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.

Baldwin still faces arson and insurance fraud charges in York County from an arrest in 2017, South Carolina court records show. Baldwin is accused of burning down a woman’s mobile home then collecting insurance money from the fire in 2017, according to York County arrest warrants and court records. He was free on bond for the arson and insurance fraud charges when he was arrested in connection with his wife’s death in 2018.
