Man dies at Charlotte hospital after being shot in Lancaster, police say

A man has died after being shot late Thursday in Lancaster, police said.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of East Barr Street near downtown, said Scott Grant, Lancaster Police Department chief, in a statement Friday morning.

Officers found the victim at Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Lancaster after he had been transported by private vehicle, police said. The victim was airlifted by helicopter to Atrium Health Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte but later died from his injuries, Grant said.

Detectives, patrol and forensic officers worked the crime scene but have not yet identified or arrested a suspect, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.
