Clover man charged: Police say he sprayed woman with flaming aerosol, kidnapped her

Police say a Clover man kidnapped a woman and sprayed her with flames from an aerosol can in a domestic violence incident.

John William Noblitt, 50, was charged Saturday with kidnapping, and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, said Capt. Logan McGarity of the Clover Police Department.

The victim, who had lived with Noblitt for the past three months, called police after she escaped the Cloverbrook Drive home, according to a Clover police incident report.

The attack started the day before when Noblitt allegedly told the victim, “she would not be leaving the house alive,” the report stated.

During the assault the woman was tackled, and Noblitt used a torch and an aerosol can to spray fire at the victim, police said. She suffered burns to her arms and her hair, according to police.

Noblitt also threatened the victim with a knife when she tried to flee, police said.

Noblitt faces as much as 50 years in prison if convicted of both charges under South Carolina law. The kidnapping charge carries 30 years for a conviction, and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature carries up to 20 years.

Nobilitt is being held at the York County jail without bond after a magistrate denied bail in an initial court appearance, according to police and court documents.
