Child seen on video riding on car hood. Rock Hill mother charged with felony neglect
A Rock Hill mother has been charged with neglect based on a video of her child on the hood of a moving car, police said.
Thrista Miquisha Johnson, 26, was arrested Tuesday after turning herself in, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.
Police were notified Monday about the video that was taken Sunday near the Keiger Place Apartments, Chavis said. The area is near Anderson Road and Dave Lyle Boulevard.
The video shows the child, 5, on the hood of the moving car, Chavis said. It is unclear how fast the car was moving, Chavis said. The child was not hurt, Chavis said.
“We saw the video and are very thankful that there were no injuries,” Chavis said.
Investigators determined Johnson was the mother, was driving the car and took the video, Chavis said.
Police notified the S.C. Department of Social Services concerning the custody of the child, but the status of the child has not been released.
The charge of unlawful neglect of a child is a felony in South Carolina that carries up to 10 years in prison for a conviction, state law shows. The law states that it is a crime to “place the child at unreasonable risk of harm affecting the child’s life, physical or mental health, or safety.”
Johnson will have a court appearance later Tuesday.
