Sheriff’s department encourages locking your car after 20 break-ins near Rock Hill
Twenty-two cars were broken into Tuesday night.
All of the cars were unlocked and at their residence. The break-ins took place at Mt. Holly Road, Dunlap Roddey Road, Strawberry Patch Road, Richard Landing Road, Marshall Road, Dalene Avenue, and Lake Edward Road, according to a notice posted by the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Most of the cars were simply rummaged through, Trent Farris, public information officer at the York County Sheriff’s office, said. However, one victim reported firearms stolen, while another reported $20 stolen.
“The message to folks is lock your car door,” Farris said, “and don’t leave your firearms unsecured in your car.”
Farris said when someone breaks into a car, they are usually looking for firearms. How can York County residents prevent this? “Be a responsible gun owner,” Farris said, and secure weapons in the homes.
The incident Tuesday follows another break-in spree on July 6, when 20 cars were broken into. It is unclear if the incidents are related.
