Lancaster teen turns himself in to police, now faces murder charges
A Lancaster, S.C., teenager has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of another teen earlier this month, officials said.
Dondrako Martellous Howze Jr., 17, turned himself in at the Lancaster Police Department Friday morning, said Scott Grant, Lancaster Police Department chief.
Lancaster police had been seeking Howze on arrest warrants charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Grant said,
Howze is charged with killing Tyreak Stevens, 18, on Aug. 2, police said. Stevens was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Sycamore Run Apartments on Miller Street in Lancaster, coroner and police officials said.
Howze has been charged as an adult, police and court records show.
A conviction for murder in South Carolina carries a punishment of 30 years to life in prison.
It is unclear if Howze has a lawyer. Howze is set to make an initial court appearance later Friday before a Lancaster County magistrate, records show.
Police said the killing of Stevens was one of six shootings in eight days in late July and early August in Lancaster, a South Carolina city of about 9,000 people south of Charlotte.
